Lyon's Will

Lyon's Will

Warning: Visiting Lyon’s Will will invoke strong feelings of ‘Let’s pack up everything we own and move to the country’.

We managed to be in the region when this cellar door was open (they’re currently only open one weekend per month), and thank goodness we chanced that! This place is warm, open and just delightful.

Renata (owner/proprietor A) took us through their small, but tight range. Sharing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Not one to rest on the laurels of the cool climate Macedon Ranges region, there’s also their first release Gamay (2017) just to mix things up a little.

We grabbed a couple of glasses (of aforementioned Gamay), sat outside in the setting afternoon sun, ate our cheese platter, and chatted with Oliver (owner/proprietor B) and a few of their friends who had rolled in to finish the bottles opened during the days open cellar door. I told you, strong urges to leave the city and live this life always.

I genuinely love a cellar door where the staff (especially if it’s an owner/winemaker) are so interested in chatting, sharing and imparting their knowledge and experiences. What do we visit cellar doors for if not to glimpse behind the curtain (or the shed door) to learn to love and appreciate the wine we drink that little bit more.

How many bottles did we buy: 5
